Laboratory
The research activity of the Groundwater Engineering Research Centre is carried out in Colentina Laboratories, Faculty of Hydrotechnics, Technical University of Civil Engineering. The centre undertakes research activities both in the laboratory and in the field.
The centre developed an experimental site consisting of five hydrogeological wells, up to 25 m in depth, and a geophysical investigations borehole, of 60 m in depth. The hydrogeological wells are equipped with submersible pumps with service discharges between 1 -5 l/s, and equipment for monitoring piezometric level vatiation (electrical GWT sensors).
Groundwater quality is monitored periodically by dynamic sampling and analysis of water samples for the following indicators: pH, temperature, conductivity, total dissolved salts, total alkalinity, permanent alkalinity, total hardness, temporary hardness, calcium, magnesium, ammonia, nitrates, bicarbonates, chlorides, oxide potential, sulphates, nitrites, iron, manganese, sodium and potassium.
The Colentina Experimental site was developed following two mjor reasons: (1) quantitative and qualitative monitoring of the “Pietrisurile de Colentina” aquifer structure and (2) “in situ” hydrogeologic tests, for teaching purposes.
